How to install an Invisible Zipper (Step-by-Step)

For the best results, we recommend using an Invisible Zipper Foot on your sewing machine.

1. Prep the Fabric: Interface the seam allowance where the zip will be placed to prevent stretching.
2. Press the Zip: Open the zipper and, using a cool iron, lightly press the nylon teeth flat. This allows you to stitch closer to the coil for a truly “invisible” look.
3. Align and Pin: With the zipper open and the right side of the zip facing the right side of your fabric, pin the tape to the seam allowance.
4. Sew the First Side: Using an invisible zipper foot, place the coil in the groove of the foot. Sew from the top down to the slider.
5. Sew the Second Side: Repeat for the other side of the garment, ensuring the fabric remains level at the top.
6. Close the Seam: Close the zipper, then use a standard zipper foot to sew the remainder of the garment seam below the zip.
