Why Every Stylish Woman needs Denim in her wardrobe

Why every stylish woman needs denim in her wardrobe

Denim has long been a favourite fabric for designers thanks to it’s durability and versatility, but this spring it has been reinvented once again. It’s one of our favourite trends both on and off the runways – including those of Marc by Marc Jacobs, Julia Seeman, Burberry, Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang and Tommy Hilfiger, to name but a few – ranging in all shapes and forms, including oversized jackets, jumpsuits, sneakers, dresses, A-line skirts and even denim suits, it’s clear that this is one fabric that designers are pushing hard for spring.

Although denim is one of the easiest fashion trends to strut, here are a few basic pointers to ensure that you are on-trend:

Accessories are always important, luckily denim tends to lend itself well to many different colours, so you can add a pop of colour to your look with a bright bag or a statement necklace. Alternatively you can rock the metallic accessory trend, just be sure not to accessorise your look with denim accessories.

A-line skirts are another trend that are taking the fashion world by storm, and you definitely need to own a denim A-line skirt. It’s pretty, feminine and flattering.

– Denim has a free pass when it comes to being scruffy, so yes, you can wear your faded, ripped jeans and jacket from several years back because the distressed look is so in right now. Style your distressed denim with a crisp white top and a pair of heels for a more feminine finish.

Pick the right colour for your body shape. In general, darker shades tend to be more flattering and have a more slimming effect, although you can totally rock two different colour denim shades (one light on top and dark on the bottom) à la Katie Holmes.

Speaking of Katie Holmes’ fashion, she’s been rocking the two different colour look; a mid-wash denim jacket and dark jeans, which created an incredible casual, chic look (and definitely one that you should try).

We have also been impressed by the double denim looks. Kate Hudson is one style inspiration when it comes to how to wear double D right, as she who wore a denim chambray shirt with a pair of denim skinny jeans, and elegantly completed her look with nude accessories. There’s really no reason not to love this trend. Get creative and design your own denim looks with the help of our high-quality craft and sewing supplies.
