How to rock leather without being a model

How to rock leather trousers (even if you aren’t a super model)

Have you always dreamed of owning a pair of leather pants but you weren’t sure how to pull off the look? Well, it may have once been a garment reserved for rock stars, but leather trousers are fast becoming a fashion favourite with even us regular women.

We’re sure you’ve already noticed that leather trousers were a major trend on the runways and we love the look, however, leather trousers can be a tricky garment to pull off. If you follow a few simple tips and tricks for how to style them then they are guaranteed to become your new wardrobe staple.

On the runways of Trussardi we saw leather trousers styled with leather tops and it actually looks incredible (although not for the faint-hearted nor for warmer climates). Also, who says you can’t wear coloured leather trousers? Au Jour Le Jour proved just how awesome leather trousers look in bright, bold colours as they styled them with a poloneck top, while on the Christopher Kane runway leather trousers were paired with checks (a popular print that you should definitely be looking out for).

So, what does this tell us? Two things. One, leather is an incredibly versatile fabric that can be paired with almost anything in your wardrobe, and two, leather suits both formal and casual occasions so it’s a day-to-night fail-safe.

We’ve all seen super models donning leather trousers and pairing them with crop tops but this is a dangerous combination that should really be left to the supermodels. Instead, style your leather trousers with a pair of black court heels and a sheer mesh poloneck, or dress them down by wearing a pair of ankle booties or biker boots and a cashmere sweater. You could even try a slightly oversized jumper, but be sure that your pants are skintight so that you achieve a more balanced look.

If skintight leathers are not for you then swap them out for a looser pair and style them with a plain white 3/4 sleeve top which you can either wear under a tuxedo cape, for a more approachable but no less chic look.

There are so many ways to make leather trousers work for you and you don’t have to be a supermodel to pull them off.
