On Thursday 15th May, we’ll be closing our doors at 522 Kingsland Road and will relocate into our new home at 2a Forest Road – just around the corner (a 20 sec walk away).
With 16 times the space of our current shop, we can’t wait to show you what we’re creating! We’ve built an exciting space for a creative hub in Dalston which will house a huge workshop area, two large cutting tables, a filming space & will allow you to browse all of our dressmaking & sewing products.
We’ll be fully closed from 16th to 23rd May. During this time, sadly we won’t be able to process any orders, and comms will also be limited. We anticipate resuming operations from 27th May. Our shop will initially be open for Click & Collect Orders only from this date. More to follow.
After 119 years on Kingsland Rd, it will be difficult to say goodbye to our shop. Our walls are layered with photos & staff “jokes” – some dating back to the 50s. The current building still holds this Dickensian atmosphere, with long corridors and old fashioned rooms – many of which are now vacant. William Gee has been home to many hundreds of staff. Couples and families worked here in what was a career for life, and our shop has served so many customers – some of whom have gone on to do wonderful things.
Whilst we are modernising, we’re mindful that our haberdashery must remain committed to retaining its olde worlde charm, and there will be plenty of nods to our history, our trade, and our community in the new shop. We are looking to build on the past, create new memories and establish new opportunities for many people in the fashion, textiles & dressmaking community.
If you have orders you’d like to place, we’d be grateful if you could do so as soon as possible to allow us sufficient time to despatch them before we close. As you can imagine, we are already heavily packed for the move – moving around 700 boxes in total!
We can’t wait to show you what we’re creating, and we’ll see you on the other side – literally.
